"My piece ‘High Flyer’ was written mostly during the first Covid lockdown, it symbolises freedom and soaring around lively, which is what most people wanted to do in lockdown but couldn’t. I called it High Flyer because the themes of the song can relate to birds and how they fly high. This is also why I choose to use a flute trio for this piece, as flutes are light and elegant, like a bird they can soar high. There is a sense of liveliness in my piece which comes from the use of staccato, slurs and accents. The main motif of the piece can also show a bird, the motif starts low then travels up and down like a bird in flight."
