"I have named this composition Elliot Riot because the piece is frantic and frenzied. There is lots of dissonance, chromaticism, syncopation and articulation. The piece begins with the main rhythmic idea being played by the left hand: a quaver followed by an accented crotchet and another quaver creating syncopated rhythm. The main melodic theme is first heard in the right hand from bars 8-11. The first two quavers in this theme are slurred together and the second two are detached. At this time the only note values that have appeared in this piece are crochets and quavers. Soon semiquavers are added increasing the pace and energy of the music. Then, both the two rhythmic and melodic ideas come together along with semiquavers in the left hand. The hands are jumping around different octaves on the piano in a riotous way."
